The 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC
Photos from today’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Manhattan. Lots of crowds, especially around 47th Street. I was caught in a group of, quite frankly, drunk idiots who created quite a dangerous situation pushing and shoving in an attempt to move against the crowd. Color me paraded out for the day. Enjoy the photos.
Atlas Obscura Burlesque History Lecture
On Sunday, I attended the Atlas Obscura burlesque history lecture and cabaret performance at Acme Studios in Brooklyn. Performing that night were Albert Cadabra, Dirty Martini, Gin Minsky, Corvette Le Face, Ms. Tickle and Melody Jane. Here is a link to a full description of the evening. Kudos to the barteners; the cocktails were mighty tasty. …
Queens County St. Patrick’s Day Parade
I haven’t been to the Far Rockaways in forever. In case you haven’t ever visited, it is located in the farthest edge of Queens. It’s a lovely seaside village of sorts, that has definitely seen better days. The town hosts the annual Queens County St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year’s event, held this past Saturday,…
A Non-Tourist’s View of Staten Island
Last Monday I played the role of tourist with a trip to Staten Island. The original goal of my trip was to have a taste of Sri Lankan food. (Who knew that the largest community of Sri Lankans in the US reside just across the water in the St. George area of Staten Island?) But…
Bones II
I have always wanted to go back to the portrait series I did many years ago at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C. I finally had the chance this past Friday, and took a trip to the Natural History Museum here in New York City. In comparing the two sets of photos, this…
The Blizzard Cometh to NYC
I hope all of my fellow New Yorkers have had the chance to go play in the snow this evening! We were walloped with 25 inches (and still waiting for the official count) of snow starting at around midnight last night. I went out this evening at 8:30 p.m. to check out the status of…
Close Up On New York: Bird Edition
Two weeks have passed, and thus far I have kept my new year’s resolution to do more personal photography. This week I focused on using my 50mm macro lens at a 2.5 aperture. A 50mm lens is basically how your eye sees the world (as opposed to a telephoto lens that allows you to get…
Watching/Watched
It’s the start of the year, and like everyone else, I have some new year’s resolutions which I would like to complete. My goals for this year are to work on my personal photography projects and to try and achieve more of a life/work balance. I started today by taking the entire day off —…
