Valentine’s Day Pin Up Photography
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Enjoy these pics from a recent Valentine’s Day-themed pin up shoot. The model is the lovely Corinna Do. Corinna is a fantastic model based in Tampa, whose specialty is her vintage look. I simply adore the classical feel of pin up photography, and it is actually an easy look to achieve once you do your research.
How did we get the look? The secret is precision. As opposed to the more natural hair and make up of today, back in the 40s and 50s the look was achieved with pin curls that remained in place and noticeable red lipstick that stayed within the lines. Corinna did her own hair and make up for this shoot, and I think she did a fabulous job. Curls are definitely the way to go, but you can also do an up do with hair accessories or scarves. For the make up, cat eye liner and red lipstick are essential. Flawless (or faux flawless) skin is also part of the package.
For your clothes, simple is better and make sure every item of clothing is tight fitting to show off your va-va-voom curves. Kitten heels or heels that are a smidgen higher will work best, though if you are doing a casual shorts outfit you can try Keds tennis shoes.
Most pin up shoots are done in a studio to complete the directional lighting, props, and to make sure that no anachronistic items from today’s world come into the picture. These photos, however, were all shot on the streets of Ybor City, which is one of Tampa’s most historical neighborhoods — especially for the Cuban, Spanish, and Italian immigrant communities. If we were shooting anything more risqué, I would absolutely remain indoors in a studio, but we didn’t shock too many people with these photos.
