Coney Island Creek

Coney Island Creek

Coney Island Creek is where rotting ships from the past rise to the surface every low tide.  I first visited this hidden spot years ago when you had to sneak in through the Home Depot parking lot to find it.  With a fancy new park surrounding the ships, the element of danger is perhaps gone, but the ships remain the same.  My last visit to the area was (I think) in 2010.  Since then its as if the ships have merged into one another to create one big heap of wreckage.  The submarine is still in the middle of the creek — find out more about it here in a New York Times article — but not much else has changed.  If you go, first make sure to visit during high tide.  That’s really the best time to visit and the only time to be able to walk along the shore.
